Lifting weights is the best way for any athlete to meet his/hers maxium potential. But just bench pressing is not going to get you anywhere. Yes, bench will give you the body you may want and help in sports but there is a lot more you need to do. If you are going for all around muscle then do these three lifts, bench press, squats, and power cleans. These lifts will work all the muscles needed to be a successful athlete. But if for some reason you can't or just to lazy to do these lifts then power clean. Power clean, when done right, works all the muscle groups from neck to calf. The main three lifts are going to give the edge to any athlete willing to put aside time to do them.
