Sammis Immigrtion Services Association Sammis Immigration is a place for people who have come to Canada from other countries. Most of th people immigrate to Canada because of war. Sammis helps these people to find settlement. The Sammis organization in Medicine Hat is a classroom for the immigrants. This is where they teach them how to speak, write, and read english. The also help the immigrants to become Canadian Citizens. The Staff The Sammis Immigration staff work everyday to teach immigrants english and all about Canada. There are four main staff at Sammis, Marijana, Carol, Mavis, and Robert. Marijana is the person who mainly runs the office and Robert, Carol, and Mavis all teach the immigrants what they need to know. My Experience at Sammis I personally enjoyed my time at sammis. The immigrants are so fun to work with, it never gets boring. Many of the immigrants loved it when we joined their class and helped them to learn about Canada. Now, I am going to be volunteering at sammis and meeting with an immigrant hopefully at least 2-4 times a week. Other Information Sammis Immigrants are taught how to read, write and speak english. They are also taught about Canadian traditions, beliefs, etc. Sammis Immigration Staff help new immigrants to become Canadian Citizens. Every friday night from 7:00pm-9:00pm a conversation circle is held for immigrants, volunteers, and staff members. Volunteers are able to sign up to be a "Canadian friend." This takes place in a private setting. Volunteers may also sign-up to help in an ESL(English as a Second Language) class.
