My Research Area: "Institutional Influences on Reproductive Behaviour: A Comparative Study of two Kinship Systems in North-East India" Objectives of the study: This research study will be conducted with the following objectives: (1) to examine the difference in reproductive behaviours between populations in two different institutional settings (patrilineal and matriarchal) under similar socio-economic environment, (2) to examine the differences in reproductive behaviour brought about by a change in the institution (change in the religious institution through conversion), (3) to suggest some important dimensions to be considered while formulating the policies for the tribal people in North-East India under the tribal sub-plan of Government of India. Hypothesis: · Females in a matriarchal system enjoy more autonomy and higher status as compared to those in a patriarchal system. · Conversion to Christianity has a positive impact on the economic status. SAMPLE FRAME WORK AND METHODOLOGY : The study will be a comparative analysis (based on both primary as well as secondary data) between two different tribal societies (Krabi and Khasi) with two different systems (one with patriarchal and one with matriarchal) and two different religious groups (one converted and one non-converted) within each tribe.
