The week of June 12th Mr. Young played an outstanding round of golf, fought to the end in a softball tournament in Salado, TX then flew to Fort Worth to carry his team to a 2nd place finish in the American Tile Supply Golf Tournament.
June 27th While experiencing troubles with 9 penalty strokes. He was not blanked by winning one of the closest to the pins. He finished 18th out of 41. Next tourney is July 17th and 18th.
June 26th While participating in the GCBFAA Golf Classic (Gulf Coast Burglar and Fire Alarm Association) He was lucky enough to be invited to be on the D/A Midsouth foursome. They just let a few get away from them but came in a respectable 5th. Jeff's personal highlights were on the longest drive 18th. (a 526yard par 5) After the missle landed it stopped a mere 170 yards from the pin. Also, Hole 6 a short par 4 measuring 323, he cut the corner flying the ball to the green, it just trickled off the left edge. While no eagle was carded it was an easy birdie.
July 17th I had a rough front nine but finished ok on the back nine. I was just ahead of he middle of the field with a net 74.8. The leader shot a net 61.1 for the first day, so there was quite a bit of ground to make up.
July 18th - This was probably the best round of my AGT career. I shot a net (35) on the front nine (43 gross)Par is 35/37 at Tapatio Springs. On the back nine, I had 5 pars, two double-bogies and two birdies for a gross 39 net 31. I wound up with a 65.8 (net) giving me a two day total of 140.6. I crawled up to 11th (out of 64) with this "career" second day round. The only negative was on the 5th hole I had a 4 putt.........YES a 4 putt!! No 3 putts in the entire round but one 4 putt. I learned to go mark my ball and let the others finish instead of rushing up there and trying to just get out of the way. All in all a good weekend and some lessons learned.........=)
On August 1st at Longwood in Houston, know for its multiple 425 yard plus par 4's, one measuring 464 and it is NOT downhill. It proved to be quite the challenge for the AGT members. Only one person shot under par and that was the one person to beat me. While a 2nd place finish was a positive it was almost disappointing there were so many opportunities lost to win the tournament outright. I have to tip my hat and offer thanks to my Uncle (John) for his support and reassurance that I could play this long course with just my 3-wood and play it well.........He was right. I hit more fairways and greens that any tournament yet. The handicap is dropping significantly with good finish I believe it has dropped somewhere around 5 strokes.
On August 7th, in Waco, Tx in a 4-man scramble charity fund-raiser, We managed a 14 under, 58 to tie for 3rd. I did win the Long Drive hole in the morning flight, it was 325 yards plus. Thanks to Granny for all of her hospitality and sharing of her home.
On August 28th I joined my steady caddy,(Uncle)John Coggin, in a Knights of Columbus Charity benefit 4-man scramble. While everyone contributed on the shots from tee to green, Roll-em in Coggin was the man with the hot putter!! He got us rolling out of a par slump on 3 with a 35 foot double-breaker. On hole 8 he poured in a 25 footer for eagle to get us jump started once more. On an extremely hot day that had to be the slowest pace of play in history (6 hrs) The company made the day a complete JOY! We finish up with a 10 under, 61 which was good enough to win 1st place. This weekend wasn't about winning or losing but being blessed enough to share good times on a wonderful golf course. (Waterwood National)
Sept. 5th I had the best round of my AGT career an 82 the put me in the top 12. I had expected to finish a bit higher because I netted a 68.2 but it seems that there were several people with career low rounds as the AGT low round record was shattered by Chris Fowler.
Sept 12th Did not bring a very favorable outcome for me. I must have played out of more sand that day than I ever care to do again. I didn't strike the ball poorly, it was just that my aim was just a couple of clicks off. I did have 4, yes 4 holes, that I 3 putted. The ONLY bright spot was on hole 18. It is a 552 yard par 5 that I hit Driver, 5 iron to about 30 feet, two putted for birdie, which didn't even hold up for a skin!!
October 3rd - Tapatio Springs, traditionally I play this course fairly well. I netted a 68.5 for 6th place, which paid exactly $ 0.00. I had two double-bogies and one triple-bogie. Yes, that is correct seven over in three holes and I finished up 10 over (gross) for the 18. It is a crazy game!!
October 9th - "Big-Daddy" Dave, Lt. Salazar, Scott and myself headed assembled a team that put together an 8 under par effort. We aren't exactly sure how we finished in the standings for Scott had to "bolt" to get to a date that evening. I would just like to thank everyone for joining me. You could not beat all the laughs that were shared!!
October 23rd, The first day of the Quarterly tourney ended in a top 15 finish. The 24th was rolling along fine until I had an Asp drop down into my shirt. What a mess!! Needless to say it went downhill quickly!
