LAMBERT REMAINS CONFIDENT
Celtic star Paul Lambert has denied that last week's Old Firm defeat has given Rangers the edge in the title race. The Bank of Scotland Premier League champions slumped to their first home loss to their arch rivals since March 2000 on Sunday. It left them three points behind in the battle for the championship but they still have a game in hand and Lambert does not feel they have much of an advantage. He said: "I don't think it's given them the edge. They won the game but I'm sure they are going to drop points from now until the end of the season. "We will recover from this and we will be there or thereabouts come May." Lambert insists that nobody in the dressing room will be feeling sorry for themselves and he is convinced they will banish the derby defeat when they face Clyde in the Tennent's Scottish Cup on Sunday. He continued: "You can't dwell on it. Even if you win you have to let it go and move on to the next game. "You don't get time to feel sorry for yourself and come Sunday we will be ready to go again. "It's a defeat. We lost to Rangers, that's the bottom line. It's not the end of the world. "The important thing is to have strong-minded players. Massive teams have come here and we have seen them off, but if we have been beaten we have bounced back." But Celtic boss Martin O'Neill has warned his players of the threat the second-placed First Division side could pose. Celtic only need to think back to their two Scottish Cup defeats at the hands of Inverness Caledonian Thistle to know that their place in the last four is not a forgone conclusion. "We are away from home for a start," said O'Neill. "They are a very decent side. "We are expected to win it eventually but I'll be hoping to be in the hat for the semi-final if we can be on Monday. "It won't be easy. I've had them watched and even if you had a chance of getting through there are still some quality sides left in the competition. "Outside Rangers it's as strong a quarter-final line-up as you are likely to get. "It is refreshing to be in a new competition for the weekend but I think because the pressure is on you to win I don't see any difference in that sense. "The only thing about it is that you can draw the game and still be in the competition. "We have had problems in the Scottish Cup in the past and there is enough anxiety attached to it. "We will be going there with some trepidation and there will be a few anxious moments and if the luck goes against us then we might get knocked out. We have to be ready. "We only have to look back at the Inverness games for a reminder of what can happen if you are not focused."
LAMBERT WARNING OVER DORTMUND
Paul Lambert has warned that if Borussia Dortmund go into bankruptcy then it can happen to any club. The veteran Celtic and former Scotland star, who won the European Cup with the Bundesliga club in 1997, has expressed his concern about his former club's shocking demise. Dortmund have warned they will go bankrupt if rescue talks with creditors fail. Lambert said: "It is unbelievable and very sad what has happened as Dortmund are a brilliant club. "I just hope they survive for the sake of the supporters as the German league needs that club to be there. "It is unbelievable how they have gone from Champions League winners to big, big money trouble in the space of years. "It just shows you how the money thing can affect you. It's the same as either of the Old Firm. "If you take them out of it then the city and the country would be losing so much." Lambert and Martin O'Neill have jumped to the defence of under-fire goalkeeper Robert Douglas but the Celtic manager cannot guarantee he will be at the club next season. The Scotland number one, who dropped a clanger in last weekend's Old Firm defeat to gift Rangers the advantage in the title race, has still not been offered a contract even though his deal runs out this summer. O'Neill said: "I don't think that (contract uncertainty) has got anything to do with it (his Old Firm mistake). "Rab will have a number of options in the summer. He is out of contract and if rumours are to be believed there will be a number of teams interested in taking him. "I am sure ideally that if offered a contract here he would give it some consideration but there are lots of things to be discussed between now and the end of the season. It is still February. "I will sit down and give it some consideration. He and his agent will be the first people to know but any player who comes to the end of his contract and has a number of offers will have to consider everything." O'Neill defended Douglas after his mistake adding: "Rab's got over these things before. It is not the end of the world, we can come back from this, and that is what we intend to do." Celtic travel to Clyde in the quarter-finals of the Tennent's Scottish Cup on Sunday.
CLYDE 0 CELTIC 5
Craig Bellamy hit his first goal for the Tennent's Scottish Cup holders as they emerged from a tough week and early scare at Broadwood to enjoy a five-goal romp to book their semi-final place. The on-loan striker hit his first Celtic goal in his second match to complete the scoring after a Stanislav Varga double, Alan Thompson penalty and Stilian Petrov strike had sunk a shellshocked Clyde, who were angered by a controversial first-half incident. Before the holders had got into their stride after their Old Firm defeat, the First Division high-flyers were denied a goal when referee Craig Thomson harshly disallowed Craig Bryson's strike for already blowing for a Stilian Petrov foul. Celtic manager Martin O'Neill kept faith with under-fire goalkeeper Robert Douglas despite gifting Rangers their opening goal last week, while Stephane Henchoz and Juninho came in for suspended John Hartson and Ulrik Laursen. Clyde boss Billy Reid made one alteration from the side which beat Ross County with Alex Burns making way for Gary Arbuckle. Bellamy looked eager to make up for last week's disappointing debut as he linked up well with strike partner Chris Sutton early on and showed his pace. But James Gibson should have tested Douglas as the Celtic defence got caught sleeping in the eighth minute. Ian Harty picked out his team-mate on the edge of the area but he snatched at his shot and did little to trouble the former Dundee favourite. But Celtic came back with Alan Thompson throwing in a dangerous free-kick but Stuart Balmer was back to head clear with Varga lurking ominously. Bellamy showed a quick turn of pace in the 17th minute to leave former Rangers man Gary Bollan for dead and he pulled the ball across the face of goal from the byline with Juninho waiting but Bryn
