Richie was diagnosed with HISTIOCYTOSIS in May of 1999. What is HISTIOCYTOSIS you ask?
HISTIOCYTOSIS is a RARE, MYSTERIOUS and sometimes FATAL disease that primarily STRIKES CHILDREN. It is similar in many ways to CANCER, and is treated with RADIATION and CHEMOTHERAPY.
Because HISTIOCYTOSIS AFFECTS ONLY 5 IN A MILLION children, there is little government funding for research. This is SAD! But the PAIN and SUFFERING associated with it are JUST AS GREAT as with better-known diseases that receive MAJOR SUPPORT.
Founded in 1986, the Histiocytosis Association of America brings together families and physicians in search of a cure.
