*HISTORY of First Baptist Shamgar*

In the year of 1997 at 101 North Back River Road,Hampton,Va.Fifteen people who had no place to go prayed unto God for his guide and leadership along with the dispalced Pastor[Rev.M.J.N.sr. Under the leadership of the holy Spirit,and the followship of our Pastor a Mission was organized.
The Pastor compelled the member's to fast and pray for a name for the New Organized Mission. God gave the New Mission name to the Pastor after a day of fasting. The Pastor gave the name to the secretary with instructions not to inform the other member's of what God had reviel unto him. He [The Pastor] said to the secretary, we must follow the word of God by trying the Spirit by the Spirit. We must all vote to see if this be God's name for the New Mission.
There were 17 names place on the floor to try the Spirit by.All 17 member's voted for the one name "Shamgar" ! The Holy Spirit had spoken,all other names did not get one vote.
The secretary was given the floor to speake,and she told the member's of the instructions the Pastor had given in relations to the name given to the Pastor by God.
The name "Shamgar" is found in judges.3:31. There were many hurdles to cross and there were test by Satan placed before each member,but the membership remembered this was not our will but God's will !
Bible Study began at the home of our trustee [now Deacon] Ricton Apartments.
From there ,we were blessed with the use of a vacant apartment for six months.
When we no longer could hold Bible Study at the apartment,our members opened up their homes so the Mission would contenue.
As time passed,the Lord moved the Mission to Hampton University,and then to the Hampton Holiday Inn on Mercury Blvd.
The Mission had a grand time there in the University and in the Holiday Inn. Significant events took place during our servicies at the Holiday Inn. One of many was the Missions first annual Christmas appreciation service banquet.
Praying,Fasting,and looking diligently for our own place to Worship,once again God answered our prayer's.On july 12th 1998,the member's of Shamgar made way to 5002 jefferson ave.Newport News,Va.
Shamgar had it's first Spiritual "Revival" in the fall of 1999. God has blessed us here at Shamgar.
The Lord Jesus Christ gave our Pastor the Wisdom and understanding to buld a Web Site for Shamgar,not having any schooling in the Computer field,not knowing anything at all about Computer's, the Lord Jesus Buld the Site useing the Pastor!
The Pastor launched Web Site Shamgar www.retnom.homepage.com,and www.retnom.democrat.com com in the year of 1998 June haveing worked on it for the pass six months or more!
God is not finished with us yet,as we contenue to build God's Ministry,we are working toward moving up a little higher to our next home as we contenue to follow God's lead !!
