Chapter 3
one week later
"Rhiannon get up! Your supposed to go riding today." Britney said
obviously agitated. "Huh?" Rhiannon asked wiping the sleep from her
eyes.
"The Viscount, the Dukes and your brother and sister." Britney answered
with a roll of her eyes.
"It bother's you that much to be a ladies' maid?" Rhiannon asked as she
got out of bed. "Look at my nails they're just fragments of their
former selves." Britney said holding out her hands.
"That sounded kinda of shallow" Rhiannon stated as she shrugged out of
her nightgown and stepped into the bath. "Thank god these people bathe
everyday." Rhiannon thought.
"I guess it did, but except for Joey and you and Christina. I don't get
to see the others very often. I miss Justin."
"Brit you two are just friends. Aren't you?" Rhiannon asked as Britney
washed her hair. "BEST friends." Britney insisted.
"Just checking."
"Rhia, I'm not the one who is going to marry him in less then two
months." Britney reminded her friend with a smug smile.
"God, Britney don't remind me."
"Wow this place is beautiful!" JC said as the girls set out the blanket
and set out the contents of a picnic basket.
Rhiannon looked up at the view that had JC staring in awe. Besides the
stream they were sitting next to, the estate and many tree's, was nothing but
miles of emerald green grass. It was one of the most beautiful things she
had ever seen. She got up and stood next to JC, "It's hard to believe that
something so beautiful is the place were generation upon generation of my
ancestors were born."
JC turned to look at Rhiannon. Her dark reddish-brown, blonde
highlighted hair shinning in the clear blueness of the sky. All he could do
was stare at that hypnotizing long mane that was blowing in the soft breeze.
His stomached did a flip. "Why does that always happen when I look at her?"
He thought. "Because you want her. Duh!" Came that voice inside his head.
"I do not, she's my friend and is going to marry Justin, well sorta!" He
yelled to the voice inside his head. "You do to!" "Do not!" He argued with
himself.
"Ready?" Rhiannon asked as she turned to him.
"Huh? For what?" JC said coming back down to earth.
"To eat." Rhiannon replied, looking at him in confusion.
JC looked to the blanket were everyone was waiting for him and Rhiannon
to join them. "Yeah, starved." JC said walking over to the food.
"For argument's sake, say we never get sent back home?" Chris said as he
ate his fifth truffle.
"Then I guess we are forced to live the lives of the people we've
become." Lance responded eyeing the caviar.
"If we don't then we change history." JC said in a cold tone.
"In that case, Lance, Christina are you planning on having any children?"
Chris asked. The other's laughed, Justin choking on his chicken.
Christina and Lance looked at each other and both turned red.
"Britney and Joey would have to remain servants." JC chuckled before he
looked at Rhiannon sitting between him and Justin and stopped.
"JC what's wrong?" Christina asked.
"If we are here permanently Rhiannon, you might just have to rethink your
no wedding night proclamation." JC said quietly.
Justin looked at JC with a twinkle in his eye that took all of JC's
control not to throttle him with envy.
"That would be like sleeping with my brother!" Rhiannon said with
disgust.
"Since that would be me, I think it's a marvelous idea!" Chris smiled.
All during dinner that evening all anyone could think about was, "What if
we don't get out of here?"
Except Rhiannon who kept looking at JC between courses. "I wonder what's
wrong with him? His eyes are sooo blue!" She thought. "You did it again!"
the now familiar voice said. "Oh go away you!" she said to the voice inside
her. "Not till you figure out what you really want!" it responded. "Oh
great! Then I'm stuck with you." She mumbled.
"What did you say Rhiannon dear?" Connor O'Wakefield asked his daughter.
"Huh? Oh nothing father. I was just thinking."
"About me I hope!" Justin said smiling at her.
"Yeah," she thought looking at JC as her heart fluttered, "about you!"
Chapter 4
JC entered his bedroom and started to fling his clothes off. "Stay away
from her! You can't have her! We can't change history! She has to marry
Justin! Be mean to her if you have to! No one can know you're feeling
whatever it is your feeling for her!" He said as he sank into the bed with a
frustrated groan.
"I just don't get it!" Rhiannon yelled as she entered her room.
"Don't get what?" Britney asked as she pulled Rhiannon's nightgown out
of the armoire. Rhiannon jump a good foot in the air, "Geez Brit you
scared me!"
"Sorry. Don't get what?" Britney asked again.
Rhiannon looked at her for a moment then spoke, "You promise not to
tell?"
Britney smiled from ear to ear, "On my own future grave! Now spill."
Rhiannon sighed. She had to tell someone. "Well, if we get stuck here
permanently, I'll have to continue to live out the first Rhiannon's life.
Which means marrying Justin. Justin is a very nice looking man but I don't
want to sleep with him. And then on top of that there's this other guy! I
mean I found him attractive before, but for some reason I can't seem to stop
thinking of him or stop looking at him. Not a hour goes by that I don't
think of those blue eyes or that brown hair. He makes a great looking Duke,
except that they don't have sleeveless shirts for men yet and I love his arms
and...."
Rhiannon rambled on until Britney interrupted her, "Damn girl you got it
bad!"
"Is it that obvious?" Rhiannon asked looking at her friend.
"Only when you open your mouth!" Britney laughed as she motioned for
Rhiannon to turn around so she could unbutton her dinner dress.
"But why has it just started going into overdrive? I never thought about
him like this before we got here." Rhiannon said over her shoulder.
"Oh really?" Britney asked.
"Ok I never thought about him like this AS MUCH before we got here!"
Rhiannon corrected herself.
"Well it sucks that you feel this way and can't do anything about it! I
agree that we shouldn't try and change history!" Britney said pulling the
dress off of Rhiannon.
"How am I going to keep myself from telling him or something?" Rhiannon
asked as Britney started to unlace her corset.
"Distance yourself from him, be mean if you have to" Britney responded.
Rhiannon thought for a moment. "I guess I have to! Rhiannon sighed.
"Just to clarify, " Britney replied, "the him we are talking about is JC
right?"
Chapter 5
two weeks later
"Lady Rhiannon." JC said coldly as he walked into the parlor that
morning.
"Lord Aquitaine." Rhiannon acknowledged equally as cold.
"What's with the venom?" Christina whispered to Rhiannon.
"I'm just not particularly to fond of him right now." Rhiannon answered.
"Liar." The voice said.
"Hello my future wife." Justin said as he kissed Rhiannon on the cheek.
She smiled at him sweetly. Masking her dismay.
"Get used to it, he may end up your husband." Christina whispered.
"Shut up C. I'm not the one getting married in a week." Rhiannon shot
back.
"Lance isn't that bad." Christina replied.
"I wasn't saying that he was I was just...wait a minute what are you
saying?"
"Nothing, forget it." Christina sighed.
"Lord Lyndhurst, " Lady O'Wakefield said to Justin, "I'm sure your happy
to see this day come."
"Why is that Lady Wakefield?" He asked.
"Why your brother arrives today!" she answered.
"Lord Jarrod Lyndhurst." Parkins proclaimed as a very tall blonde hair
man stepped through the doorway.
"This is supposed to be Justin's YOUNGER brother?" Rhiannon whispered.
"Remember Justin's not 18 here he's older. Like 25 or 26. Something
like that." Chris whispered.
"That old?" Rhiannon said with a smirk as she looked at Chris.
"Haha very funny!" He said.
"I thought so." Lance laughed.
"Lord Jarrod, shall I introduce you?" The Earl of Glenroe asked.
As the Earl made introductions JC studied the young man. "I don't like
him," He thought, "something about him just isn't right." Then the voice
replied, "It's probably because he's kissing Rhiannon's hand."
Chapter 6
"Your horse Milady." the groom said to Rhiannon as he helped her onto
the saddle
"Thank you." She said to him before she rode off towards the stream.
She took the short cut. Riding fast and wild over the valley of green. When
she got to the spot she had come to love as her own, she dismounted and
teathered her mare to one of the trees.
"You could have killed yourself riding like that" JC said as he appeared
from behind one of the other trees.
Rhiannon jumped in surprise as shills, the good kind, ran down her spine
at the sound of his voice. "Would you care?" Rhiannon asked.
"YES!!!" Everything inside him screamed. "Since your probably the reason
we're in Regency period Ireland and if you died..." He started to say.
"You'd be heartbroken." The voice said. "Like duh! I know I want her! But
I can't have her!" JC replied to himself. "It's more than want and you know
it." "Is not!"
"If I died you would what? Really JC you should finish your sentences."
Rhiannon stated.
"If you died we would all be stuck here." JC pretty much lied.
"You'd miss your Harry Connick Jr. CD's that much?" She asked with a
raised brow. "Oh yeah insult the man!" the voice inside her head said. "Oh
go away! besides it's not exactly an insult. I like..."
Rhiannon started to reply to the voice before JC shot back. "Rhia you
like Harry Connick just as much as I do."
Rhiannon rolled her eyes, "That wasn't the point."
JC watched her as she walked over to the edge of the stream. "Where is
Justin? Lance is with Christina." JC stated.
"Well Scoop and C have figured out we aren't leaving any time soon and
are discussing the ground rules for their fake marriage." Rhiannon said as
she kept her eyes on the view above the stream.
"And you and J aren't doing the same because?"
"We will when the time comes."
"Okay, then answer my first question." JC instructed.
"You mean where is Justin?" She asked.
"Duh!" He said with agitation.
Rhiannon turned to him, "Don't Duh! Me! I was just making sure what you
perceived as your first question was what I perceived as her first question.
I believe he is in one of the upstairs closets making out with that nice maid
Jamie."
JC's eyes filled with blue fire.
"Whoa! are those eyes gorgeous when he's made or what!" She thought.
"Makes your blood boil doesn't it." the voice said. "In a good way, or in
my current situation in a bad way." Rhiannon replied to the voice.
"You're letting him have an affair with on of the maids?" JC yelled as
he stormed over to her.
"Better her than me! Besides he's supposed to anyway! Making out isn't
an affair." She yelled back at him as they stood face to face.
"Then maybe the first Rhiannon didn't marry him" JC said with a hope
Rhiannon did not catch.
"Not likely! Men were allowed to have mistresses in that, correction,
THIS day in age." She yelled at him.
"Well then maybe you should ask Jamie what turns J on so you'll have an
idea what to do on the wedding night" He spit.
Rhiannon's right hand came up and hit him square on the jaw.
"You hit me!" He yelled in shock.
"You keep spewing comments like that one and I'll do it again" She
yelled back.
"Like hell!" he said grabbing her arms.
"Let me go Milord!" Rhiannon instructed through clenched teeth.
"If I do you'll hit me again."
"No shit Sherlock!" She replied as she struggled to get free.
Sometime during the fight one of them slipped. They landed on top of the
other with JC under Rhiannon as her hairpins fell from her hair allowing to
spill about her face.
"God your beautiful, a hellcat, but beautiful." JC said quietly as he
still gripped her arms. Rhiannon's eyes widened as her mind registered
what he had just said. "Why did you just say that?" she asked.
"It's the truth" He whispered as his mouth moved closer to hers. They
stayed this way for awhile. Just staring at each other. A breath away from
kissing.
"We better go back" JC said releasing Rhiannon's arms.
Chapter 7
"History can screw itself for at least five minutes." Rhiannon said as
she brought her hands to his side and her mouth to his. She kissed him with
a reserved passion. JC remained motionless until the sweet sensation the
weight of her body and lips caused him enough pleasure he wanted more. His
hands went into her hair and the kiss went from hers to his His kissed her
with weeks of pent up passion, wiping away her reserve. She moaned softly as
he slipped his tongue inside her mouth. They spent minutes, that seemed like
hours, tasting each other. Suddenly JC pulled away, "Whatever this
is it's not supposed to happen. Go find Justin."
"Go back to Justin. Go back to Justin," Rhiannon said in an angry voice
as she slammed her door shut, "Brit will you help me out of this thing?"
"If you hold still." Britney said as she grabbed Rhiannon by the
shoulders and turned her around.
"You may want to wait until I leave the room." Joey said from his seat
by the fireplace. "I've got all of these period underclothes on it
doesn't bother me. Stay." Rhiannon muttered.
"You and JC have a fight?" Joey asked.
"Britney!" Rhiannon shouted.
"She didn't tell him." Christina stated.
Rhiannon looked at Christina then Britney. "Britney!" She shouted
again.
"She didn't tell me either." Christina laughed.
"Then how did you know? And sorry for yelling at you Brit." Rhiannon
said as she slipped her riding habit off.
"Apology accepted." Britney responded as she went to trade the riding
habit for a dinner dress.
"Rhia it's so obvious the way you two have been going at it." Christina
stated.
"What she said" Joey mumbled as he stared at Rhiannon's corset, camisole
and petticoats, "I'm glad women's underwear is going to go along way."
"Lady Rhiannon dinner is about to be served." Jamie said peeking her red
head into the room.
"Thank you Jamie! May I ask you a question?" Rhiannon asked.
"Of course Milady." Jamie answered brightly.
"I really like her" Rhiannon thought. "Do you find Duke Ashburn
attractive?" She asked the maid.
Jamie turned a shade to match her hair.
Britney pinched Rhiannon as Christina and Joey coughed back their
surprise.
"It's okay Jamie I know the answer. You don't have to feel bad."
Rhiannon smiled as the girl scurried away.
Just then JC appeared in the doorway," Why was Jamie's face so red?"
Rhiannon smiled at him wickedly," I took your advice. I asked her for a
few pointers on what I should do to J on the wedding night."
Chapter 8
"Duke Ashburn is your brother all right?" Lady O'Wakefield asked Justin
as they all waited for Jarrod Lyndhurst to appear.
"Excuse my tardiness, my apologies to you all for having to wait."
Jarrod said as he appeared and took his seat.
The dinner was uneventful except for the occasional icy stare between
Rhiannon and JC. Lord O'Wakefield stood, "I believe it is time for the men
to retire to the parlor."
"Well then I'll leave you to your port, and bid everyone a goodnight"
Rhiannon said as she kissed her mother and exited the dinning room and
entered the hall. She made her way to the staircase. When she reached the
sixth step she slipped. She screamed as she fell back, hitting her head and
entering the darkness.
"Oh ow!" Rhiannon mumbled as she placed her hand on the back of her head
and opened her eyes.
"Rhiannon puss. Thank god! I was so worried." Wynne O'Wakefield cried
as she hugged her daughter.
"Now Wynne, it's just a wee bump. She'll live," Connor said to his wife
before turning to his daughter in the bed, "but she'll spend tomorrow in bed.
We don't want you having a spell at the wedding on Friday."
"Yes Father." Rhiannon responded.
"That's me girl. Come Wynne let's to bed." Connor replied taking his
wife's arm and escorted her out of the room.
"Lady Rhiannon, as my future sister, I bid you a speedy recovery and a
good night." Jarrod Lyndhurst said as bowed and left.
As soon as Jarrod left Joey entered the room and rushed over to Rhiannon,
"Rhia are you okay? What happened? Who did this I'll kill him."
"Yes, but the back of my head hurts. I must of been clumsy and slipped.
You won't be killing anyone." she answered.
"You weren't clumsy. Someone must of spilled something oily. It was
covering the sixth and seventh step." Chris said reassuringly.
"How did I get up here in my bed?" Rhiannon asked.
"Justin carried you up." Christina answered.
"My hero." Rhiannon smiled up at him.
JC scowled, "Well you need your rest so I'll be going." At that he left
the room with the others following after each, except JC, gave her a kiss on
the cheek.
"You should have seen JC tear out of the dinning room when he heard you
scream." Christina told Rhiannon as she placed her palm on Rhiannon's
forehead.
"C I have a bump on the head not a fever and he really raced out of the
dinning room when I screamed?" Rhiannon exclaimed.
"Yep, but when it came to getting you in bed JC told Justin to carry you
up."
