In a recent article in the Press and Light Mayor Hill announced that she has decided to run for a second term. She mentioned the innumerable state and federal grants awarded to our City since she has been in office, which include $3.22 million for the Bainbridge Rd. project. What she fails to mention is that the grant was applied for during the Armbruster administration.
Hill mentions unparalleled city-school cooperation. Isn't that interesting? There was also an article in the same issue of the P&L on the daytime curfew debate. The article stated School Board member Tom Dake expressed irritation with the handling of the proposed daytime curfew, noting that the city had worked through Superintendent Tom Rockwell, rather than the School Board. Hill has maintained Rockwell backed the proposal. "The School Board was not asked to support the curfew," said Dake, adding, "The School Board has not discussed it yet." Dake also criticized the lack of communication between the city and the schools. "We have to have a communication break-through," he said.
Hill also considers completion of the Master Plan one of her accomplishments. The Master Plan was nearly completed under the Armbruster administration. When Hill took office, the plan was thrown into chaos with unpublicized meetings, and changes then passed with a multitude of errors.
Another accomplishment Hill boasts of is the construction of a commercial complex. If she is referring to the crossings at Butternut, this complex (because the laws werent followed) has thrown the city into a lawsuit. The city is being accused of conspiracy and wrongfully taking Q-Panels land by eminent domain.
Hill also states the city's flood control efforts have reduced insurance premiums. The Premiums, if anything, have increased in cost. The fact is the flood plain maps have not been re-drawn or approved by the required governmental agencies. This map must be revised before flood insurance rates are reduced.
Am I missing something here? Is Hill exaggerating her accomplishments or giving false and misleading information.
