The Immigrants

The first COLLINS in my line to come to America appears to have been either a William or John Collins. A conflicting story is reported by W.E.Brockman that indicates that William was 23 years of age born in England and sailed to America arriving in Virginia on May,15,1635 on the ship "Plaine Joan". In a book intitled "The Original list of persons of Quality" by Hooten(pages 78-79)give the original passenger list of the "Plain Joan" with Richard Buckam as master. It lists 84 passengers that embarked for Virginia at the Port of London on May,15,1635 including 2 named William Collins,One age 20 the other age 34 but none at age 23. Another account floating around out there states that a John Collins arrived in Virginia from England in 1655. He had lived in Maidstone,Kent Co.,England and had settled in Surry Co.,Va. He married Elizabeth Caufield(dau. of William and Dorcas Caufield of Surry Co.)He lived in Lawnes Creek Parish until his death in January 1693.Their children included a William Collins.
