June 28, 1925 Santa Barbara
This is where we say all the information of our project :-)
...Task 1...
** On June 28, 1925 at 3:27 AM many residents of Santa Barbara, California were sleeping when a magnitude 6.3 earthquake began. Although the quake did not immediately start, they knew it was something big. The night before had been warm, but unusually humid and the tremors began at 3:27 AM and ended at 6:27. By 6:44 AM the largest portion of the earthquake hit. Dozens of buildings, hotels, and the Sheffield Dam were damaged. The Sheffield Dam was built in 1917 and is 720 feet long, and 25 feet tall. At the time when the earthquake hit, the dam was holding 30 million gallons of water. When it collapsed it carried trees, automobiles, and three houses with it, leaving mess and destructions behind. Luckily only 13 people died, had it been several hours earlier the death toll would've been higher. The Downtown area of Santa Barbara was hurt the most, but as a result many buildings were rebuilt. The Spanish-Moorish style was adopted and can be seen throughout the city; it had also made the town more popular for tourists. Even though the earthquake was devastating, it also helped the economy.**
